1st Father & Son Polo Cup – Easy-going and lots of fun
Successful première at the Ibiza Polo Club: on 23 and 24 July 2016, the first Father & Son Polo Cup (0 to 4 goals) took place on the Balearic island. A total of four teams with at least one senior-junior pair took part.
The interaction between the family members worked brilliantly and the atmosphere was equally as amazing. And it wasn’t just the spectators who were an international bunch; the players themselves also came from all over the world. Richard Mashald and his son Harrison, for example, travelled from Canada. The youngest player in the tournament was 11-year-old César Randquist, while the oldest participant was Daniel García at 70.
The winner of the first Father & Son Polo Cup was the ME Ibiza Polo Club team with Gabriel Jr (UAE) and Gabriel Iglesias (ARG) as well as Diane and Chris Garland (ENG). The four won with a score of 3-1 in the big final on Sunday against the San Lorenzo Polo Team comprising Edoardo and Daniel Garcia Fontana (ITA) with Stefano Giansanti (ITA), who was declared Best Player, and Charlie Brown (ARG). At the after polo party with DJ Chino Paino and a typical Argentinian Asado (Argentinian BBQ), everyone celebrated the successful première and fantastic weekend in high spirits.
The concept of the Father & Son Polo Cup was well received. Eva Márquez from the Ibiza Polo Club: “It was really nice. The atmosphere was fantastic: easy-going and very lots of fun. There will be a second edition for sure. But we were the first to create this new polo cup concept, although we’re sure that people will start copying it soon.”
