Led by seven goals from Kris Kampsen, GTP Polo scored an 11-8 win over the host team to capture a spot in Sunday’s finals of the 2009 US Trust Cup Friday afternoon at the Grand Champions Polo Club.

Threatening skies and some scattered showers weren’t enough to deter GTP from its mission as it ran up a 5-3 lead at halftime over a disorganized Grand Champions defense that allowed three third chukker goals.

Goals from Cachi Garcia and Kampsen in the fourth chukker were answered by a single goal from Grand Champions’ Greg Keough, and the GTP lead was stretched to three goals.

Kampsen added two more goals in the fifth period while Peter Rizzo scored his second goal of the afternoon to give GTP a 10-5 lead.  Francisco Ayala scored his first goal of the game for Grand Champions.

The Grand Champions staged a sixth chukker rally, getting two more goals from Ayala and one from J. J. Celis, but it wouldn’t be enough.  GTP scored the final goal of the match on a penalty shot from Kampsen for the 11-8 win.

Kampsen led all scorers with seven goals.  Teammates Peter Rizzo and Cachi Garcia scored two goals apiece.  J. J. Celis and Francisco Ayala led the Grand Champions attack with three goals apiece.  Charlie Muldoon and Greg Keough each garnered a goal In the loss.

US Trust Cup action will continue on Sunday with a 9:30 am Consolation Final between Grand Champions and Audi.  The finals will pit GTP against Boca Developers at 11 am.
