Cartier Queen’s Cup – Day 7

Sumaya 15 – 8 HB Polo

Sumaya, who have reached the final of this competition before, showed their experience this afternoon when they defeated HB Polo 15 – 8 at Coworth Park.  HB Polo are the newest team in the competition and today they were no match for Ahmed Aboughazale’s red shirts. In fact HB Polo failed to score at all in the first two chukkas, enabling the scoreboard to register a 7-0 lead for Sumaya at the end of the second chukka, thanks predominantly to Francisco Sola. HB Polo fought back in the third, scoring three goals but so did Sumaya, so taking the score to  10 – 3 at half-time. The second half was a more even affair, with Sumaya even failing to score at all in the final chukka. However the damage had already been done and Aboughazale’s team celebrated their first Cartier Queen’s Cup league victory in 2013.

Sumaya’s final league match is against another experienced Queen’s Cup team – Edouard Carmignac’s Talandracas squad on 4 June – and with both teams looking for that crucial second win and a guaranteed place in the quarter-finals, this match will be both tense and tough.
