Chukkers for Charity: Nashville Style

By Alex Webbe

Cathy Brown and some friends  got together this summer to stage the 13th annual “Chukkers for Charity” Polo Match in Franklin, Tennessee.  Featuring a match that showcased some top international players, the efforts of the many participants delivered some much needed financial assistance to a couple of local charities.

“I’ve been involved since its inception,” said Brown, a tireless volunteer and an accomplished player.  “Saddle Up!, a Therapeutic Riding Program for children with special needs and the Rochelle Center, which provides self-help, work training, and residential support to adults with disabilities were both this year’s benefactors,” she added.

Lee Ann and former USPA Chairman Orrin Ingram were the event hosts at their Riverview Farm, just south of Nashville in Franklin, Tennessee.

“We have different themes every year, “ Brown offered,  “This year we had a Celebrity Polo Match and Car Show.  It was unbridled horse power and horsepower,” she said.

John Walsh, the host of America’s Most Wanted, provided the celebrity while international players Julian Daniels (6), Whistle Uys (5) and James Armstrong (5) added on-field talent to the event.

Supported by a group of local sponsors that included Auto Week, Mt. Brilliant Polo, Jack Daniel’s, Lipman Brothers, Jaeger-LeCoultre, King Jewelers, Farm Vet, Ingram Entertainment, Wade & Egbert, Traveler’s Insurance, VIP Magazine, Nashville Scene, Crown Ford, Andrews Cadillac, Nero’s Grill, Ash Blue and others, the affair was a smashing success.
