Harry East Memorial 2011 final

Harry East Memorial 2011 final

Grants Farm Polo team triumphed in the final of the Harry East Memorial 11-8 over Mansour on Sunday. It was the first time in Santa Barbara Polo Club history that Andy Busch Sr, who is perhaps better known for his polo exploits in the 20 goal tournaments, had entered a tournament with his son, namesake Andy Busch Jr, so the victory was very special for the Busch clan.

The two Buschs had a lot of help from 5 goal player Santiago Wulff and from teammate Leigh Brecheen. Brecheen, who was playing with a cracked ankle bone, scored three goals from the field and hustled non- stop on defense in a noteworthy performance.

Grants Farm quickly made up the two handicap goals in the first chukker, and then proceeded to a 6-3 lead after the second chukker. Mansour got much more aggresive in the 3rd and 4th chukkers, and pulled within 2 goals following some nice runs by Justin Klentner and Santiago von Wernich, but the balanced attack of Grants Farm was too strong and they would be not denied the victory. All four players on Grants Farm scored en route to victory, Andy Busch Sr was high scorer with five goals.

Leigh Brecheen was selected MVP and Santiago von Wernich’s grey mare Julieta was awarded Best Playing Pony.
