PILARA URIEN LOZA WIN THE VI INTERNATIONAL JULIO NOVILLO ASTRADA CUP, PRESENTED BY JAEGER-LeCOULTRE, AT LA AGUADA POLO CLUB
Pilará Urien Loza beat La Picaza 14-11 and claimed the VI Edition of the International Julio Novillo Astrada Cup, presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre, in the final played at La Aguada Polo Club, in Open Door.
The match, held on the club’s ground #2, had a very balanced first half, with a 3-all in the first chukker and a one goal advantage for Pilará Urien Loza in the second and third chukkers (5-4 and 6-5 respectively).
In the fourth chukker, Pilará Urien Loza expanded the advantage to a 10-7 lead in the fourth period and 12-9 in the fifth chukker. La Picaza tried to cut the margin in the last chukker, but their efforts were not enough, and Pilará Urien Loza finally won 14-11.
In the previous Subsidiary matches, Los Cocos beat Las Monjitas 11-8 and won the La Martina Cup; Billingbear defeated Tupungato Winelands 7-4 and took the Escorihuela Gascón Cup para quedarse con la Copa Escorihuela Gascón, and La Tapera Trilenium took the Nespresso Cup, after their 11-10 victory over Escorihuela Gascón.
Following the final matches, Eduardo Novillo Astrada Jr. said a few words to emphasize the work of all the people who works at La Aguada and helped in the organization of the tournament, mostly in the maintenance of the grounds, which allowed to play the matches despite the heavy rains. He also thanked the eight participating teams as well as all the players from all over the world who came to play the tournament, as well as the attendance and the important support from the sponsors.
During the awards ceremony, Pilará Urien Loza’s Joao Paulo Gannon, was named MVP and the Skeeter Johnston III Fair Play Award went to Los Cocos’ Rafael Zubillaga.
Rayo Imaginada, bred by Javier Novillo Astrada and played by Ignacio Novillo Astrada was awarded with the Mejor Producto Jugador Inscripto de la Asociación Argentina de Criadores de Caballos de Polo, and Miguel Novillo Astrada’s Electra, took BPP honors.
Finally, the four members of Pilará Urien Loza received four Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra watches.
The tournament had the closing party, as usual in the Novillo Astrada family home, where everybody, players, special guests, media, sponsors and friends enjoyed a cocktail and an Argentine Asado.
The VI Edition of the Julio Novillo Astrada International Cup, came to an end.
