Stefano Marsaglia’s Piaget downed Harald Link’s Thai Polo 10-6 in Sunday’s single league match in the British Open Championship for the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club.

Thai Polo got off to a fine start in the opening chukka with goals by Juan Zavaleta and patron Link. But Piaget responded with two to tie the match. Scoring was equal in the second period leaving the game again tied 4-4 at the bell.

Piaget held Thai Polo scoreless in the third chukka and took the lead 5-4. Piaget again denied Thai Polo any goals in the fourth period and increased their advantage to 8-4.

Thai Polo rallied in the fifth chukka, blanking Piaget and decreasing their deficit with the period ending 8-6 in Piaget’s favour.

Piaget held Thai Polo scoreless for the third time in the sixth chukka and tallied two to handily win the game.

Alejandro Muzzio was high scorer for Piaget with five goals to his credit. Patron Marsaglia was absent, substituted with Harry Benyon.

There are three British Open matches scheduled for Tuesday: Richard Mille v Cortium at Great Trippetts Farm, Les Lions v Coca-Cola on Ambersham 3 and Talandracas v Salkeld on Ambersham 1.
