THE 2011 HARRIMAN CUP HONORS POLO STAR NACHO FIGUERAS

On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the 27th Annual Harriman Cup will bestow the inaugural Harriman Cup Award to international polo star Nacho Figueras, Luis Rinaldini and Julie Rinaldini for their leadership, public service, and strong advocacy/support for equestrian sports.

With Robert Redd and J.McLaughlin as the Match and Chukker Sponsors, the Harriman Cup will take place in Old Westbury, NY at the Meadowbrook Polo Club, the oldest polo club in the United States. Over 1,000 attendees are expected at this full-day event, which includes the polo match, tailgating, kid’s activities, and live entertainment by the highly energetic East Coast Band. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Outfit, Best Hat and Best Tailgate.

The funds raised from the polo tournament will benefit the undergraduate polo teams at both the University of Virginia and Yale, and will help rebuild Yale’s collegiate polo program after the 2009 closure of the historic Yale Armory.

The Harriman Cup was founded in 1984 to commemorate the life of W. Averell Harriman, a 1913 Yale graduate and polo player, who was the former Governor of New York, former U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain and the Soviet Union, and was the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Truman.
