Deauville Polo 2014, 3rd August and 12th-31st August

Flying the flag for the French team!

The traditional August Deauville Polo season is resolutely flying the flag for the French team this year. It’s no surprise, given the Polo performances seen at the FEI AlltechTM 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy and the European Polo Championships scheduled for September in Chantilly.

The season will thus begin on the 3rd of August with the Deauville Polo Cup, starting with the “24 heures du cheval” (www.deauvillecheval.com), a 12-goal test match pitching the France-Deauville Team against Australia-Windsor and finishing with another match featuring the French team on the 6th of September. In its 18-goal conformation, the team will take on a team of players from the rest of the world, symbolically representing the four major continents of polo, the Americas, Oceania and Europe, for the Polo demonstration of the FEI AlltechTM 2014 World Equestrian Games held in Normandy.

Between these two eventsLive, from the 12th of August onwards (open to the public from the 15th of August), the renowned Deauville Gold Cup will be held, the first edition of which took place in 1950. This prestigious competition has hosted all of the great Argentinian players, the Heguys, Cambiaso, the Pieres & co. Played off 12 goals, on new grounds, the 2014 edition will stay faithful to the event’s tradition thanks to Talandracas (Edouard Carmignac) who will once again team up with Argentina Open finalist Polito Pieres, with whom the Deauville captain had carried away the Gold Cup last year and reached the finals of the legendary Queen’s Cup in June last year in Windsor.

Five teams will compete for this year’s Gold Cup, including a 12-goal French team headed up by the French n°1, Pierre-Henri N’Goumou. The other teams will include a Swiss team (flying the Royal Barrière flag) with the spectacular Martin Aguerre Jr., a Spanish team, Marques de Riscal and the French Talandracas and Vicomte A teams featuring the unfailing Dario Musso, handicap 7. The final of the Marta & Lucien Barrière Gold Cup will be held on Sunday the 31st of August at 5.30pm. The semi-final for the Diane Barrière Desseigne Silver Cup will be held the day before.

The Bronze Cup (8 goals) will feature six teams including a Dutch team, Douglas Polo Team, an Austrian team, Mungo, a German team, La Concepcion, and three French teams: La Esperanza,  Le Pommeray and the title-holder Red Falcon. The final will be played on Friday the 29th of August at 5.30pm. Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany: Deauville Polo is more international than ever for this 2014 edition which is sure to win over a new generation of patrons.
