The Argentina Cup – Moscow Polo Club
On the 17th June, the Moscow Polo Club hosted the 7th annual Argentina Cup, under the auspices of His Excellency the Argentine Ambassador, Juan Carlos Kreckler, who was the host and guest of honor. The Argentina Cup is an Official Russian Federation of Polo Players event and a popular fixture in the Russian Polo calendar.
The polo field at Tseleevo was in perfect condition by the afternoon when play began and the weather was perfect. The match format was to divide all the players, including visitors from the President’s Polo Club, into two teams (The total number of players participating was 13). The game was comprised of six chukkas and at the final buzzer the Moscow Polo Club team scored to break an 8-8 tie to defeat the Tseleevo Polo Team by one goal, thus winning 9-8.
After the exciting game, in which the lead changed hands several times, the guests enjoyed a genuine Argentine asado and a Tango orchestra accompanied by two pairs of outstanding Tango dancers.
The next major tournament at the Moscow Polo Club will be the High Goal Festival from the 4th – 12th August, which will include a 14 goal exhibition match. In the meantime, the Moscow Polo Club team will be travelling to England to play.
