Clear winners on the first match day!
Teams Maserati, Corum and Engel & Völkers make it to the next round on tomorrow’s Saturday with superior results
On Friday the first three matches of the tournament ended, other than expected, with the most clarity and a definite goal difference. All three teams which left the playing field successfully were characterized by amazing team play and spontaneously scored goals.
At the first match team Maserati, including “the polo legend” Thomas Winter, team captain Marc Aberle and Tim Ward, allowed the opposing team Valartis Bank no pause for breath and hardly gave them a chance. “You never get bored watching Tim Ward…” The Englishman, who currently lives in Hamburg, scored one goal after another. In the end the well attuned dream team parted with their opponent by 11-5. Thomas Winter: “Team Valartis Bank is extremely strong and fortunately we made a good play right from the start. To play here in Kitzbühel in front to this unique backdrop is sensational time and time again.”
In the second match teams Corum and Bernd Gruber were opposing each other. And this game saw a clear winner as well. Team captain Patrick Maleitzke, Philip Sommer and Lukas Sdrenka left no doubt with their end result of 10-2.5 that today the threesome was better in reading the game.
With a definite result of 10-4.5, the Irish team Engel & Völkers, consisting of team captain Richard Fagan, Michael Henderson and Santiago Torreguitar, parted with the opposing team Corestate. From the beginning the Irishman pulled clear with a commanding lead and did not give the slightest chance to the three-nations-team Corestate (Argentina-Netherlands-Germany).
The audience witnessed interesting opening chukkas in stable weather conditions and good ground conditions, which gives reason to expect narrow results in the matches in the upcoming days. The international audience looks forward to tomorrow’s chukkas and especially to the big Players’ Night, taking place in the evening in “Tyrolean Style” in the festive VIP tent, with great anticipation
