Tortugas Open – Day 1

On Saturday 10/12, on field 5 of the local club, the 84th Tortugas Country Club Open presented by Jumbo began, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake.

In the opening match of the tournament, the defending champion of the last three Triple Crown tournaments, La Natividad, extended its undefeated streak after beating Indios Chapaleufú Vista Energy 25-4.

There were almost no equivalences between one team and another. From the beginning, the green-and-white team took control of the actions and scored a 10-0 run demonstrating their great superiority. With a huge game by Jeta Castagnola – author of 12 goals – very well accompanied by Facu, Barto and Pablo, La Natividad achieved a very clear victory against a Chapa that could only score one goal from the field, and had very little chance of reaching the rival wickets.

Teams and progression:

The Nativity: Facundo Pieres 10 (4 goals, two penalties), Camilo Castagnola 10 (12, three penalties), Pablo Mac Donough 10 (4) and Bartolomé Castagnola (h) 10 (5). Total: 40.

Indios Chapaleufú Vista Energy: Antonio Heguy 7, Victorino Ruiz Jorba 8, Cruz Heguy 8 (3 penalties) and Teodoro Lacau 8 (1). Total: 31.

La Natividad: 1-0, 7-0, 11-1, 12-1, 17-3, 18-4, 22-4 and 25-4.

Judges: Gastón Lucero and Hernán Tasso. Arbitrator: Matías Baibiene.

In the continuity of the opening day of the 84th Tortugas Country Club Open presented by Jumbo, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake, Cría La Dolfina and Ellerstina UAE Yellow Rose faced each other on court No. 6 of the organizing club. It was a victory for the first of the named players, by a tight 18 to 17; and in this way they are left with a key victory in the search to define the zone.

It was a very good polo match, between two teams that knew that a victory would leave them with a good chance of defining their group. It could have been for anyone, since the Zeta started better, which with the good play of Lukín Monteverde and the scoring ability of Sapo Caset, took advantage of four goals averaging the fourth chukker. But from there the Cañuelas team became strong, which scored a 4-0 run in the fifth period and turned the score around. The match was back and forth, but the winner, with Bauti Bayugar very accurate in the execution of fouls (7/9), took a two-goal lead in the last period and despite the draw achieved by General Rodríguez’s team, a breakaway by Rufino Bensadón, with just over 1 minute to play, gave the victory to Cría La Dolfina.

Teams and progression:

Breeding La Dolfina: Rufino Bensadón 8 (5 goals), Diego Cavanagh 8 (3), Alejo Taranco 8 (3) and Bautista Bayugar 8 (7 penalties). Total: 32.

Ellerstina UAE Yellow Rose: Guillermo Caset (h) 9 (11, seven penalties), Lucas Monteverde (n) 8 (3), Gonzalo Pieres (h) 9 (2) and Ignatius du Plessis 9 (1). Total: 35.

Cria La Dolfina: 2-1, 2-3, 3-5, 7-9, 11-9, 13-12, 16-14 and 18-17.

Judges: Martín Aguerre and José I. Araya. Arbitrator: Gonzalo López Vargas.
