The action continued on Thursday 26th June for the recently started Gold Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club as two matches took place with close results. High goal action to sink your teeth into.
Match 1:
Sebastien Aguettant’s Kazak took on Jaisal Singh’s Sujan Indian Tigers in a great match and fierce competition. Sujan Indian Tigers came out all guns blazing and it seemed they were onto a walkover with 8 goals in the first 2 chukkas putting them into a 5 goal lead, but Kazak were not to be easily quashed. Switching up their defensive tactics the Kazak side started to neutralise the Sujan Indian Tiger attacks, turning defensive plays into attack and creating scoring opportunities of their own with 22 shots on goal resulting in 12 field goals overall. They took the lead after halftime and despite fighting valiently Sujan Indian Tigers were unable to recreate the magic of their first 4 chukkas and were trailing by 3 as the final whistle blew at 13-10.
Match 2:
A surprisingly close game saw the strong La Dolfina/ Marques de Riscal side struggle to shake the advances of Vere Harmsworth’s Ferne Park. Luckily for La Dolfina/ Marques de Riscal they had been consistent enough throughout the game to survive the onslaught in the final chukka which saw Ferne Park score 3 unanswered goals to bring themselves within a goal of victory. Strong play from the experienced La Dolfina/ Marques de Riscal side kept them ahead and with 21 shots to goal, they were certainly not short of goal scoring opportunities throughout the game. Poroto Cambiaso was, as always, a delight to watch. Cool headed and skilful he was intrinsic to the side’s prevailing win.
