Tortugas Open – Day 3

On Tuesday the 14th, on field 6 of the local club, date 3 (second of Zone A) of the 85th Tortugas Country Club Open began to be played, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake.
In the first match of the day, Los Machitos El Refugio beat Sol de Agosto by a tight 14 to 13, leaving them with no chance of reaching the final and remaining as leader of the group, in a position to play a “semifinal” next Saturday 10/18.

The two teams had very clear objectives: one needed a victory to reach the definition of the zone, while Sol de Agosto was looking for its first win in this AAP Triple Crown.
It was thus a very hard-fought match, in which both teams exchanged the advantage several times. On the side of Los Machitos, “Torito” Ruiz was implacable against the rival wickets; while for its part, Sol de Agosto showed “Juanma” Zubía and “Benja” Panelo as its best values on the day.
After achieving a good three-goal lead almost at the end of the sixth chukker, it seemed that the first victory of the team that has the young Paco de Narváez was coming, but Los Machitos did not shrink, they scored a partial of 6-2 to turn the game around; He secured the victory and was in a position to play the first “semifinal” of the tournament.

Teams and progression:

Los Machitos El Refugio: Victorino Ruiz Jorba 8 (10 goals, seven penalties), Alfredo Bigatti 8 (1), Diego Cavanagh 8 (2) and Teodoro Lacau 8 (1). Total. Question 32.

Judges: Matías Baibiene and Martín Pascual. Arbitrator: José I. Araya.

Second Game

In the continuity of date 3 (second of Zone A) of the 85th Tortugas Country Club Open, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake, on Tuesday 14, on court 7 of the local club, the recent winner of the 132nd Hurlingham Club Open and only candidate for the AAP Triple Crown, La Natividad La Dolfina, got its second win in the tournament by beating La Irenita La Hache Clinova with great authority by 22 to 8.In this way, not only did they leave their rival without a chance to play the final but they were in a position to play the first “semifinal” of the tournament against Los Machitos El Refugio, next Saturday 10/18.

After a hard-fought first chukker that ended evenly, the Cambiaso and Castagnola team began to gradually take advantage, thanks to their two fiery forwards, “Poroto” and “Jeta”, authors of 19 of the 22 goals that the team scored on the day. The team led by Pablo Mac Donough and Hilario Ulloa could not get a foothold in any sector of the field and could only score 4 goals from the field in the eight sets that the match lasted. Very little for a team with a 37-goal handicap, which was overtaken by the progress of La Natividad La Dolfina, which continues at a steady pace in the Triple Crown 2025 of the Argentine Polo Association.
