On Thursday 1/10, the final of the Joseph Drysdale Subsidiary Cup of the 133rd Hurlingham Club Open presented by AAP was played on field 2 of Hurlingham, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup is at stake.
In the decisive match, Híper , Fran Elizalde’s organization that is playing its first season in high handicap polo, beat La Ensenada Green Armor by a close 15-14 , taking the subsidiary trophy and cutting short the streak that its rival had of two consecutive Drysdale Cup titles (2024 and 25).
After a dominant start by La Ensenada in the first two chukkers, Hiper began to find their footing on the field. From the third chukker onward, they not only leveled the score but also took the lead on several occasions, thanks in large part to a great performance by “Torito” Ruiz Jorba. Following a very even contest, marked by several consecutive ties and with only 20 seconds remaining in the final chukker, “Jero” del Carril had a 60-yard penalty to win the game, but he missed. On the ensuing play, Hiper launched a counterattack that culminated in a well-executed goal by Teo Lacau, just 12 seconds after the first bell, securing the victory and the Drysdale Cup for his team. The four players and their entire home crowd celebrated wildly. Congratulations!
