Julius Baer Gold Cup – Day 5

Mahra wins the “derby” and earns a spot in the Quarter-finals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018

Another exciting double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club was held today for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018.

Desert Palm defeated Bin Drai by 9 goals to 8 and Mahra beat Habtoor Polo in extra chukker 10 goals to 9.

They were two very close matches, played with a lot of intensity and suspense till the very end.

In the opening game Desert Palm played a great second half to turn over a match that was really complicated. Patron Rashid Albwardy´s team achieved to reduce a two goal gap and score a 3-0 in the fourth chukker and finished the great work in the last seven minutes for a 9 goals to 8 victory that keeps them with chances to qualify for the next round.

Match Progression:

Desert Palm: 1-1/ 2-3/ 4-6/ 8-6/ 9-8

Top Scorers of the match: Camilo Castagnola (Desert Palm) & Raúl Laplacette (Bin Drai) 5 goals

In the second match of the day, Mahra won the “derby” against Habtoor Polo in OT by 10 goals to 9 with Jerónimo del Carril scoring the winning goal for patron Rashid Al Habtoor´s team that gives them a secure place in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup 2018.

It was a very tough match, even in actions and score. Chances were equal and anyone could have won, but it was that great action by Del Carril after winning the first OT throw-in that made the difference and gave Mahra the victory.

Mahra: 1-2/ 3-5/ 6-6/ 7-8/ 9-9/ 10-9

Top Scorer of the match: Bautista Urbina (Habtoor) 5 goals
