2012 Girls USPA National Interscholastic Tournament


The Maryland Girls Interscholastic Polo Team, based out of College Park, took home the Girls USPA National Interscholastic Championship this past weekend in Charlottesville, Va. The competition featured nine of the top high school girls polo programs from all over the map and some of the sport’s best young female players.    

 

Maryland took hold of the tournament with wins against Maui and UConn before capping off their undefeated tournament run with an 18-15 victory over Cornell in the championship match on Sunday.  In addition to the team’s championship win, Maryland standout player Marissa Wells was selected as a national tournament all-star.

The Girls USPA National Interscholastic Championship is part of the U.S. Polo Association’s Intercollegiate/Interscholastic (I/I) polo program, which is dedicated to growing the sport by providing maximum exposure, recruiting collegiate and scholastic institutions, coordinating activities and organized competition.  America’s oldest pastime is experiencing a resurgence in the U.S. thanks to I/I polo, dedicated Regional Polo Centers, cost-effective training platforms and the premier Team USPA development program.
