Polo stars out in force at Hickstead

A number of famous faces will be at Hickstead this Saturday (1 March) for the annual International Arena Polo Test Match, when England will take on the USA.

England captain Chris Hyde (9) will be joined by his son, rising star Jack Hyde, who plays off a handicap of 3 and is making his England test match debut; along with 7-goaler Pete Webb. They’ll take on the USA team of Tommy Biddle (10), Patrick Uretz (5) and Will Tankard (4).

The day’s action will begin with The Hickstead 10 Goal Challenge, between The Clogau Wales Polo Team (Ricky Cooper, Roddy Matthews and Richard Blake-Thomas) and  Team Hedonism Wines (Evgeny Chichvarkin, Royston Prisk and Eden Ormerod).

As well as seeing some of Britain’s brightest arena polo stars on the pitch, a number of top players will be there to watch the action – including members of the Atlantic Polo Team. In January, polo stars  Henry Brett, James Glasson, Bobby Dundas and Fergus Scholes took part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, covering 3,000 nautical miles in 48 days to win their division and finish second overall in the gruelling race.

The Atlantic Polo Team will join the great and the good of the polo scene at the post-match luncheon, held in the Beethoven Suite overlooking the International Arena. Tickets for the lunch, which cost £45, are still available but must be ordered before 5pm Friday by calling the Hickstead office on 01273 834 315.

Unlimited tickets for the match are available to purchase on the gate, with entrance costing just £5 per person.
