England stars saddle up for eighth Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach
The award-winning Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach is returning to Watergate Bay, north Cornwall on the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July 2014.
Hosted by Watergate Bay Hotel, the free event has become a flagship weekend on the Cornish social calendar.
Watergate Bay Hotel’s Will Ashworth said: “Last year we expanded Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach to a two day event. With great weather and two high goal polo matches we attracted a record number of spectators to the bay.
“This year we are holding Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach in July. The lighter evenings mean we’re able to fit in more action with three polo matches, polo demonstrations, entertainment in the arena, alongside live music. Many of the players coming this year are part of the England squad so play is guaranteed to be thrilling and highly competitive.”
Now in its eighth year, the weekend packs in a large range of entertainment including the Watergate Bay Trophy match on Saturday 5 July between teams from Joules and First Great Western alongside matches sponsored by Cornwall Farmers and Patch & Acre, Carrs Land Rover Truro, and Udo’s Choice.
Some of the country’s best polo players will be taking to the sand including England star Jamie Le Hardy. For the first time, the event will also include an all ladies match on Saturday 5 July. On Sunday 6 July, the Cornwall team, supported by Cornwall Farmers and Patch and Acre will take on the Rest of the World.
Christina Jesaitis, Senior Brand Manager for Veuve Clicquot, said: “Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach is the longest standing beach polo event in the country, and every year it continues to grow in popularity. It’s such a fantastic opportunity for people to come and see what polo is all about in a stunning environment.
“Over the last few years the event has attracted some amazing players and the standard of polo has continued to rise. Now Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach is very much established as part of the UK polo season.”
Alongside matches, there will be entertainment in the arena, fun activities for spectators, polo demonstrations and live music as the sun sets. A special Veuve Clicquot Champagne bar will be selling Champagne by the glass and bottle, and The Beach Hut barbecue and bar will also be open on the beach.
Tickets are now on sale for the Polo on the Beach VIP House Party, with afternoon tea and Champagne cocktails on the Swim Club terraces, access to the VIP viewing decks and an exclusive after-party with food from Executive Chef, Neil Haydock. Taking place on Saturday 5 July, tickets are priced at £120 for adults and £60 for children aged 8 – 17. Tickets are available from: www.watergatebay.co.uk/polo.
