Guards Polo Club and Tally Ho Farm create Grooms Award Series

By Diana Butler

The unsung heroes of every polo game are the grooms. Guards Polo Club, in conjunction with Tally Ho Farm, is making sure that this season their skill and dedication is recognised through the creation of a new awards series. The Guards Tally Ho Farm Grooms Award will be presented each month from May through to September for the most outstanding groom.

The judging panel, which includes Guards Polo Club’s Polo Manager Antony Fanshawe, Club vet Holly Baird and Tally Ho Farm founder Jeff Thomas, will be looking for exceptional string turn-out, well ordered and tidy pony lines and excellent pony welfare management.

Not surprisingly, the judges have already made notes from the pony lines at Smith’s Lawn, Flemish Farm and Coworth Park, in readiness to announce May’s recipient of the Guards Tally Ho Farm Grooms Award. The winning groom will receive £150, a review in Guards Polo Club’s 2016 Yearbook and the knowledge that their contribution to this great game has been publicly recognised.
