Oldford Polo Ground, Madison County

The Copa America soccer match for western hemisphere dominance may have been exciting as Chile squeezed by Argentina recently, but it hardly held a candle to the slugfest that took place on the Oldford ground on Saturday last, between the Argentine Freight Train  and the Migthty Mexican Martin.

The titanic mano a mano between Mighty Martin Maldonado and Freight Train Butler began within seconds of the starting throw-in. Celtic Lass and Canadian Gent freed the illusive ball from the unruly scrum to feed it to a hungry Mighty Martin.  Three slams later the Reds had drawn first blood. Unsatisfied by their comet like score, the Red squad repeated the trick in the second minute of the first chukker  At this point Freight Train returned the favor by slamming two goals through the Red posts to even the score. Never asleep at the switch, Mighty Martin wrestled the ball from the Golds and propelled it through th posts to put Red one up.

The second chukker saw Mighty Martin fire three scores past the posts while his avowed adversary was only capable of two. Supplemented by a tidy goal winning swing by Celtic Lass, the Reds kept their edge at 7 to 4.

Canadian Gent caught fire in the third by ploughing two scores home. Mighty Martin added two more while Freight Train could only find one scoring victim.as he split the ball into three pieces. The third period ended with a heavily unbalanced score of Reds  11  and  Golds 5.

Fatigue took its inevitable place in the last period as the Mighty Mexican only managed one score. On the other hand the  powerful Argentine Freight  Train passed his last scoring opportunity to his teammate Long Legs Kiyonaga who deftly put it away with one swift slash.

The Reds won 12 – 6
