Legacy Pollo Cup 2016

Legacy Pollo Cup 2016

August 11th-14th marked the third annual Pollo Cup at the Legacy Polo Club in Birrfeld Switzerland.  No – that was not a typing error – the Pollo Cup celebrates the mighty chicken with a hen-shaped trophy, and naturally a roasted chicken-truck providing snacks to visitors.

Eight teams, representing players from England, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Switzerland, competed over three sun-drenched days of play for the coveted Chicken Cup.  Fierce competition resulted in some sweeping wins, with first prize deservedly going to the Polo mit Herz team, composed of Sacha and Thomas Fedier, Matias Carrique and Simon Pioltino.  Keeping the crowds both well informed and highly entertained was “the voice of polo” Jan-Erik Franck.

There was much entertainment off the field as well with a special players’ dinner on Thursday night at the Grand Casino Baden, a charity gala on Friday night in support of Polo mit Herz, (we are proud to have raised over 50’000 CHF to aid children with cancer), and an open dance party “Noche de las Gallinas” on Saturday night featuring the Vikings from Lucerne.  Off-field daytime entertainments included a petting zoo, pony rides and visits from some cuddly Saint Bernards from the Barry Foundation.  In addition to the “Güggeli” truck, Argentinian-style barbeque, sausages, and sweets were all on offer. Visitors were also treated to an impressive air show from Patrouille Suisse on Saturday afternoon and an antique Rolls Royce and Bentley car parade on Sunday.

Thanks to all of the sponsors, visitors, players and staff who made this such a successful and fun weekend.
