Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club – Dubai, UAE
The Sir Winston Churchill Cup, a tribute to Sir Winston Churchill and his passion for polo with the support of the International Churchill Society, continued today with two matches.
The first match of the day was the closest one we have seen in this tournament yet. Brothers Mohammed Al Habtoor and Rashid Al Habtoor, with their respective teams Habtoor Polo and Mahra polo, there was a true brotherly competition. Mahra scored the first goals and Habtoor Polo was left behind, but soon caught up and responded with two goals of their own. By half time both teams had scored 4 goals, except Habtoor Polo was awarded a half point by handicap, as playing with a 9 goal handicap team against a 10 goal team. In the third chukker Habtoor Polo got ahead and in the fourth Tariq Al Habtoor and Diogo Gallego responded with two goal putting Mahra in front. With only 15 seconds left on the clock of the last chukker, and after 3 players missed the ball, Mohammed Al Habtoor swooped it up and scored the final goal giving Habtoor Polo a win of 7 ½ to 7 over Mahra.
The second match saw Bangash and Bin Drai fight equally hard in the first half, with Bin Drai working especially on the defense and only letting Bangash get through with one goal. The second half saw Bin Drai score two more goals and Bangash one more, for a final score of 5-2 in favor of Bin Drai.
The next day of play will be Thursday at Al Habtoor Polo Resortand Club where Bangash Polo team will meet Habtoor polo team and Bin Drai will face Mahra.
