AES VICTORIOUS IN THRILLING ROYAL SALUTE UAE NATIONS CUP 2015 FINAL
• – SAM INSTONE STEERS AES TO 5:3 TO CLAIM ROYAL SALUTE UAE NATIONS CUP TITLE IN 14 GOAL TOURNAMENT
• – POLO AND SOCIETY ELITE OUT IN FORCE TO CELEBRATE 6TH ANNUAL PREMIER POLO
(Dubai) After three days of hard fought, high quality polo, AES emerged 5:3 winners over Royal Salute at The Royal Salute UAE Nations Cup 2015, hosted at the Desert Palm Retreat, Dubai, on Friday 30 January 2015. The match, played in front of a partisan crowd featuring Dubai’s polo and society elite, marked AES champions for the first time in the sixth year of the Royal Salute sponsored event.
Over 250 VIPs gathered along the Partner’s Terrace at the glorious Desert Palm Retreat to witness Instone’s AES team fend off pre-tournament favourites Royal Salute in a hard fought and competitive match. Despite a heroic hat-trick from Royal Salute captain Malcolm Borwick, his team were unable to keep match their counterparts, who at one stage in the 2nd Chukka held a 4:1 lead. A tighter 2nd half saw the final deficit reduced to two, but the game and ultimately the title was always AES’s to lose.
AES, led by Sam Instone, lifted the Richard Fox designed silver trophy along with his team mates. The Royal Salute UAE Nations Cup 2015 was awarded by His Grace, Torquhil Ian Campbell, the 13th Duke of Argyll.
This year’s final saw a high quality field with the likes of internationally recognised polo professionals Diego Cavanagh, Juan Gris Zavaleta, Matias Machado and Malcolm Borwick, join battle for top honours. They were joined by Dubai based recognised aficionados of “the sport of kings” – locally based players Sam Instone, Musab Al Wandawi, Kristian Peterson and Thomas Claesen. The full team line ups, with player handicaps were:
