Oana Ivan Gallery is proud to host her first solo exhibition. “Beyond Borders” unfolds a series of photographs conceived as a narrative of fragments, where territories and people meet and respond to each other without hierarchy. With her photographs, Aline Coquelle reveals the stories, experiences and points of view of people we don’t always hear from here. Bringing these images back to us means crossing borders and bringing together peoples, pieces of lives that might never have crossed paths otherwise.
One of the photographs featured in the exhibition is of “her” Mongolian wild horses, where the tight framing pays tribute to their power and freedom, transporting us to another world and almost another time. This quote, written by Aline on the photograph itself : “There is a voice that does not use words – Listen”, by Rumi, one of the greatest Persian poet, invites us to meditate on our relationship with others and with the world.
With degrees in Art History and Anthropology, Nomadic French and Global Citizen photographer Aline Coquelle is always traveling the world. Coquelle has lived and worked in Central and South America, India, Europe and Africa, among other places. She loves to immerse herself in remote parts of the world to capture the essence of Humanity and Wildlife. Her photographs have been published in the most prestigious international publications and she is known for her many books published by Assouline, from Palm Springs to Zanzibar, worldwide horsemen & polo players of whom she is a privileged observer.
