America’s Top College Player To Play with the Pros at Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships – Sunday, Oct. 26th at 2:30 p.m.
Athlete, student, and model to display his talent at the Polo Party
On Sunday, October 26th student-athlete-model Patrick Uretz will take the field at the 4th Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
The multi-talented 22 year old recently won the “Collegiate Player of the Year Award,” and the “All-Star Team Award,” as the captain of the two-time national champion Westmont Men’s Polo Team, all while studying economics and business at Westmont College in Santa Barbara and modeling for the United States Polo Association. He’ll be adding to his already extensive resume when he travels to Scottsdale this weekend to compete in the sport that’s making him famous: polo.

“I’ve been playing polo since I was old enough to hold a mallet,” said Uretz, “and my passion for the sport has never stopped growing.”
This will be Uretz’s first time attending the event, as well as his first visit to Scottsdale, though he argues he’s no stranger to the hot Valley sun. “I grew up playing in Palm Springs, so the heat isn’t really a factor for me.”
He is, however, new to the audience that comes with competing at an event of this magnitude. “I’ve never played in front of thousands of people,” Uretz confessed. “I’m most excited about the crowd. Scottsdale is transforming polo into a spectator sport.” If last year’s numbers are any indication, the fans, families, and revelers flocking to Scottsdale for this year’s festivities will likely exceed 12,000.
“I’ve heard of the event; a few of my friends have played in it, and I’ve seen it in magazines,” Uretz said. “It’s the biggest polo event in the country and I’m excited that I got asked to play in it.”
As the sole collegiate player participating in the polo matches, Uretz has an incredible opportunity to mingle amongst the polo pros from all over the world, including the top player in the U.S., Julio Arellano, the top female competitor, Sunny Hale, and the captain of the reigning event champs, the Clogau Wales team, Ricky Cooper.
“It’s an honor to be the only college student playing, and the fact that I get to play with new people, and network at such a fun event, is icing on the cake.”
Uretz will be teaming up with Pete Webb, Sunny Hale, and Roderick Matthews, to form the ultra-skilled Bentley Scottsdale All-Star Team. They’re up against stiff competition; the Barrett Jackson All-Star Team is stacked with talent as well, with Julio Arellano, Sarah Wiseman and Paola Martinez. It’s the match to watch at the event of the year.
Also featured at the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships will be the Larsen LIVE Art Auction, a Canine Couture fashion show presented by Applewood Pet Resort, the World Food Championships, Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction sneak preview, The Worlds ’Longest’ Fashion Show sponsored by Cullum Homes and Presented by Phoenix Fashion Week and the Arizona Porsche Concours d’Elegance. Tickets, tents, and tables are available starting at $15 at www.thepoloparty.com.
