A close match throughout, both teams were determined to triumph in what is one of the most important trophies of the UK season and the title that started the high goal season with 12 teams competing. Aureus Polo, made up of the talented young Panelo brothers and British player Mark Tomlinson, had a great game, dominating in attacking field plays. Their consistent onslaught on the Calatagan LL defensive goal paid off with 8 out of 11 of their goals coming from the field after 17 shots at goal.

The two Panelos are famous for their quick stickwork, and this was evident in the number of steals, intercepts and turnovers they achieved. While Calatagan LL almost doubled Aureus Polo’s throw ins, it was Aureus that were able to turn over possession and turn defensive plays into attacking opportunities. Quick to make the most of any error, Aureus didn’t give an inch, merciless in their speed to run in and score from any loose ball.

The match was even throughout, neither side ever managing to increase the score difference by more than a goal and the lead switching between the two sides, but some final chukka determination saw Aureus able to take advantage of their 7-6 upperhand going into the last and score 4 times to seal their victory and take home the all important trophy.
