Bobby Genovese: The Mane Man

Bobby Genovese: The Mane Man

Bobby Genovese is many things: a venture capitalist whose investments with his organizations BG Capital Group and BG Capital Management have generated impressive profits over a span of well more than three decades; a television star who held down the central role on the reality show Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist; a philanthropist whose work with the Boat /Car Rally for Kids with Cancer which has raised more than $14 million for pediatric cancer research, treatment and care at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Kids; a doting father; and last, but not least, an outdoorsman, sportsman, and passionate equestrian. This last one is a part of Bobby G that few people know much about.

For Bobby Genovese, it all began in rural Ontario. While spending time riding horses, baling hay and mucking out stalls in northern Ontario, Bobby gained a lifelong appreciation for all things equestrian. He worked as a barn manager after dropping out of grade nine, where he learned to manage the many aspects of a business — a skill that would serve him well later in life. He also learned that the people at the barn who had money were the ones who actually owned the horses, not the ones working with them. He was on the wrong aide of the horse. So, he devised a plan that would allow him to have both the money and the horses.

Bobby quickly maneuvered his way to enormous business success. After his position as a consistent winner in business was established, Bobby turned some of his attention back to horses when he was introduced to the sport of polo.

Bobby came to polo relatively late in life, but with his established equestrian background, limitless enthusiasm, and aptitude for anything athletic, he soon became an accomplished player. In 1996, along with Argentinean six-goaler Marcos Bignoli, Bobby set about forming Vancouver International Polo. In just its first year the team competed in the highly competitive Sunshine and Hartman leagues, and, remarkably, went undefeated in the Hartman. This was an unheard-of feat for a first year team in that established league. Then, two years later, they continued defying the odds and won the prestigious Canadian Open.

While being a notable enthusiast of all things equine, Bobby also fervently enjoys almost any outdoor activity, including boating, waterskiing, snow skiing, and hiking. For Bobby, any time spent in the fresh air is time well spent.

Always one to try to help others to enjoy life alongside him, Bobby has created a dozen resorts, each offering the ultimate in outdoor recreation. These outdoor playgrounds, known as BG Signature: Luxury Retreat Collection, include premium retreats for lovers of the outdoors and more. Four of these resorts have an equestrian flavor. BG Equestrian Resort in Ocala, Florida, allows visitors to enjoy horseback riding on gorgeous trails and participate in clinics while enjoying luxurious accommodations. Bobby’s three polo-themed properties in Toronto, Ocala, and Argentina also provide unique opportunities to play and learn this Sport of Kings.

What each of the BG Signature properties have in common, be they of a horse themed or otherwise, is that they are all on protected natural habitats. This reflects the importance Bobby places on preservation of the earth’s natural treasures. Through this emphasis on caring stewardship of land, Bobby is allowing both present and future generations to enjoy all the benefits of what the outdoors has to offer.
