European Women’s Polo Championships: Good start for the French
In a match which was not certain, The French women’s polo team managed to break through the German Teams grasp and take the first step towards the finals of the first European Women’s Polo championship an International Federation of Polo competition.
However the match didn’t start well for the Bleues who let in three goals in the first chukka. The Germans horses were visibly superior, and faster than this of the french. It was a question of reviewing the strategy, tightening the defense to avoid letting the Germans pass with their ” rockets « .
The French then took on the domination there on after. Led by the experienced Caroline Anier, the French mostly occupied the opposing side and forced their opponents to give away four penalties close to the goal including three converted by Caroline Anier. Added to that a very good goal by Léa Siboni. Unfortunately the Germans only managed to score one goal in the last three chukkas and the match ended 5 ½ – 4. Next meeting Tuesday at 3:30pm against Italy.
An Italian team dominated by the English in the other matched played also today at Chantilly 7-3.
A beautiful start to the first day for this championship week, untouched by the rain which was expected and spectators surrounding the boarders.
Tomorrow the men will start their battle, and the first match for the French mens teal against Spain at 3:30pm. Just before England will take on Germany. There are just two tickets to the World Championship Finals which will be held in Sydney next October. A trip which the French are particularly motivated to attend…. but they are not the only ones.
