FIP World Polo Championship Playoff – Day 2

Argentina and Brasil won the second games of the tournament


Friday 27 at Punta del Este Polo Club. 

 

Heavy rains delay the tournament but the fields where ready the following day to continue the road to Sydney in the World Polo Championship Playoff.

Game 1 – Peru had received 2 goals and a half because of handicap differences but Argentinians managed to even the scored in the first chukker. Lorenzo Masias from Peru had a terrible fall and had to leave the game in the second chukker and Marcelo Cilloniz rated with 2 goals took his place. Number 3 from Argentina, scored 6 goals and lead his team to a secure win. The game ended 11 to 4 1/2 in favour to Argentina.


Argentina: Juan Nagore 2 (1), Hector Guerrero 5 (2), Valentín Novillo Astrada 5 (6), Tomás Panelo 2 (2). Total: 14 goals.
Peru (2 1/2): Conrado Puigerfagut 3 (1), Lorenzo Masias 3 (replaced by Marcelo Cilloniz 2), Ignacio Masias 3, Rodrigo Vielgeux 2 (1). Total: 12 goals.

 

Game 2 – Up next, the game between Brazil and Uruguay was much more even. Tied from the beginning, brazilians were able to take a small but meaningfull lead scoring the penalties while the locals missed two great opportunities. The score was 6 to 4 when the bell rang, showing Brazil had won the encounter. 


Brazil: Eduardo Junqueira 2, Ubajara Andrade 4 (2), Guilherme Lins 5 (3), José Meirelles 3 (1). Total: 14 goals.
Uruguay: Mauricio Sanchez 4 (1), Ignacio Viana 2 (2), Guillermo Besozzi 4, Matias Carrique 4 (1). Total: 14 goals.
