Compete in Front of Hundreds of Families and Polo Fans
Yesterday, more than four hundred fans turned out at the Equuleus Polo Club in Water Mill, New York, to watch world-class polo players including Nacho Figueras, Magoo Laprida and Mariano Gonzalez battle it out for charity, and in the process, raised $1 million to help New Yorkers in need. Teams representing tournament sponsors Credit Suisse and St. Regis Hotels and Resorts played, with St. Regis taking home the Cup.
Families are the centerpiece of the Piaget Hamptons Polo Cup. Every child who came received their own polo mallet to take home, and enjoyed pony rides, sunset polo lessons taught by the pros, arts & crafts activities, and a traditional Argentine asado barbeque.
“Joe and I are thrilled and humbled by the degree of support for this polo fundraiser for Robin Hood,” said Diana DiMenna, event co-chair and co-host with her husband, hedge fund manager Joe. “Every penny of the $1 million raised will go directly to the best poverty-fighting programs in NYC. All of the families who enjoyed their day with us today have provided for better days ahead for other families in the great city we all share and love.”
“We are proud to be back for the fourth annual Piaget Hamptons Cup,” said Philippe Léopold-Metzger, CEO of Piaget. “It’s a beautiful event that provides the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our new Extremely Piaget Collection, while also supporting our friends in the polo community and most importantly, the great work done by The Robin Hood Foundation.”
Thanks to the generosity of Presenting Sponsor Piaget, Team Sponsors Credit Suisse and St. Regis Hotels and Resorts, Car Sponsor Bugatti – along with support from the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation and Zen Air — 100% of every dollar raised goes to fund job training programs, schools, food pantries, medical services, emergency shelter, and other vital services that provide New Yorkers with the tools and support they need to build better lives.
Since the inaugural event in 2012, The Piaget Hamptons Polo Cup has raised over $1.5 million, every penny of which has gone to fund the most effective poverty fighting programs throughout New York City. This year, the tournament raised an astounding $1,000,000, bringing the total raised from this singular event to more than $2.5 million. To put that into perspective, the funds from yesterday’s event are enough to provide more than 833,000 hot, nutritious meals to New Yorkers struggling with hunger. The same amount can also offer 10,000 young students with a day of high-quality pre-kindergarten instruction.
“More than 1.8 million of our neighbors live in poverty,” said David Saltzman, executive director of Robin Hood. “It’s truly gratifying to see this community of caring – hundreds of people joining forces to raise money to help people they don’t even know. We are truly grateful to Diana and Joe for the love and concern they demonstrate for the people Robin Hood serves day in and day out, and to Nacho for his commitment and leadership on making this event so successful.”
