Glen Gilmore to take up new role at Ellerston

Guards Polo Club has announced today that its Polo Manager Glen Gilmore will be leaving the Club at the end of the 2014 season. The seven-goal Australian has been offered the “job of a lifetime”, managing the Packer family’s Ellerston polo teams in Australia.

Neil Hobday, CEO of Guards Polo Club said: “Although we are very sad to be losing Glen, who has done so much to build up the polo at Smith’s Lawn in the past two years, we could not stand in his way. The job at Ellerston, one of the most magnificent polo operations in the world, is an incredible opportunity and everyone at the Club here wishes him well in this new venture. We always knew that Glen and the family would be returning to Australia one day and we are delighted that he is returning to such a prestigious role in polo.”

Although Glen only took up the Polo Manager’s role in 2013, he had already been an integral part of the team at Guards Polo Club for more than a decade. In addition to his role as captain of the Australian Polo team, Glen had taken on the challenging role of Guards Polo Club’s Chief Umpire and was also a member of the Club’s Board, where he represented the high‐goal professional players.

Glen will continue to oversee all the polo at Smith’s Lawn as usual until September 2014. In the meantime the Club’s CEO will form a selection committee to start the process of recruiting a new Polo Manager. The Club aims to have Glen’s successor in place in time for the 2015 season – Guards Polo Club’s 60th anniversary year.
