This was a key match for both sides who went in with 2 losses and a win piece. the winners hopes of Gold Cup glory would continue and the loser would be out of the running. It seemed at first that it was to be Ferne Park’s day with a phenomenal second chukka that saw them score 5 goals and go 3 up on Desert Palm but it was a lead they could not maintain and Desert Palm’s Barto Castagnola picked himself up, dusted himself off and showed the crowds why he is a 9 goal player. Unable to score in the final 2 chukkas, Ferne Park’s dreams were dashed while Desert Palm go through to penalties to fight it out for their quarter final spot after finishing the league stages 2 wins to 2 losses.

Another pivotal game, Marques de Riscal had 2 losses and a win to their name heading into the game while Black Bears needed the win to seal their place in the quarters. It was not Black Bears’ day though and they were unable to keep hold of their 2 win, 1 loss advantage, going down to Alejandro Aznar’s side 10-8 after a closely contested battle. Marques de Riscal were leading throughout and managed to keep a cool head to ride to a 2 goal win despite huge defensive pressure from the Pieres duo who fought every play.With the win, Marques de Riscal kept their hopes alive and sent both teams through to penalties.

With Dubai already through to Quarters, Gaston could have done with the win here to ease their path to the next stage but it was not to be and due to their close loss to Black Bears last week this defeat sends them to join the penalty shoot out to continue the fight for their place while Dubai prove their dominance with a flawless record of 4 wins in the league stages. A nice match to watch, Jeta Castagnola was in his element sending huge lofty shots to goal and working dynamic plays with Heguy, Albwardy and Lauhle. Consistent defence and team play from Gaston meant they were always in the game but they couldn’t quite steal the victory.
