There was just the one Gold Cup match on Wednesday 3rd July at Cowdray Park Polo Club, but what a match!
In a thrilling exhibition of high goal polo, crowds were treated to an extra chukka as the match between Alexie Calvert-Ansari’s White Crane and Tariq Albwardy’s Desert Palm Polo ran into overtime. Desert Palm were eventually victorious after a goal in the 7th, giving them their first win of the tournament but it was no easy task and the White Crane side put up a good fight. Neither side gave an inch as they headed in to a halftime 6 goals apiece. The second half gave no respite and White Crane, 100% from the penalty line remained determined and were able to equalise in the 6th chukka to push the match into overtime. It was Desert Palm who were successful though and that golden goal means they could still be in with a shot of making the Quarters.
