The Grand Champions Polo Club of Wellington has certainly carved out a niche for itself in the prestigious polo community of Palm Beach County, Florida as it gets ready to begin its second year of tournament play.
The Club is scheduled to re-open for practice on May 1st, with competition beginning in the La Martina Cup on May 6 and continuing through May 18. The Polo Gear Invitational will follow, scheduled for May 21 thru May 25. The spring season will come to an end with the Grand Champions Spring Challenge Cup, May 30 thru June 8. The club will remain open for practice through June 11.
The competitions will be awash with top level talent that will include 8-goalers Hector Galindo and Nick Roldan; 7-goalers Tommy Biddle and Juan Bollini; 6-goalers Kris Kampsen, Roberto Gonzalez and John Gobin; and Canadian National Team Member, 5-goaler Brandon Phillips.
“It’s a great time of the year to play,” said Roldan when asked about the club’s format. “The fields are in great shape, the people are fun and it’s very enjoyable polo,” he added.
In addition to some of the game’s most popular players, the Grand Champions Polo Club will be welcoming veteran Bob Daniels and his Pony Express team to the competition this spring. Daniels, whose Pony Express team is a regular in 26-goal action, will be enjoying some fast-paced but friendly competition in Wellington this spring.
With 29 player-members already signed up for the Spring Season, Grand Champions will continue to promote the social side of the game.
The Grand Champions Polo Club will also emphasize the importance of social activities for the members with its signature Friday Night Asados and some new activities that will include a new “Dine Around” concept with club dinners in many of Palm Beach’s finer restaurants.
