Horseware Products Ltd. and The Tackeria have teamed up again to sponsor an innovative all-pro team in the 20-goal Ylvisaker Cup tournament, which opened Friday, January 27, at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC). Last season the team won the tournament’s George Haas Cup subsidiary trophy.
The 18-goal Horseware all-pro team includes: Matt Coppola (4 goals), Juan Martin Obregon (5), Mariano Gracida (4), and Tommy Collingwood (5). Their first game in the tournament is Saturday, January 28, at 12:30 p.m. at IPC.
Tom MacGuinness, founder and CEO of Horseware Products Ltd., and Tony Coppola, owner of The Tackeria, stepped up to sponsor the team because they are committed to supporting the advancement of young polo players in the sport.
“Horseware is delighted to support the team. We’re really excited about this new concept of four young players, all pros, on a real four-man team,” said MacGuinness. “These guys are really hungry. They’re going to play their hearts out.”
Coppola, whose son (Matt Coppola) has competed on an all-pro team in Argentina, is equally committed to the venture. “It’s important that these young pros have an opportunity to showcase themselves and play in a high-goal tournament,” he said. “The growth of the sport depends upon the development of young players.”
Founded by Coppola in 1975, The Tackeria is the annual sponsor of The Tackeria Invitational and The Tackeria Cup, part of the Polo Training Foundation’s Florida Young Player Program. South Florida’s premier equestrian shop, it is located in the heart of Wellington. The store carries one of the widest selection of equestrian equipment in the world, including polo tack, apparel and equipment, as well as products for the dressage and hunter/jumper disciplines.
Horseware, founded 32 years ago, is also providing award blankets for horses selected as Best Playing Pony in the 2017 high-goal season at IPC. Horseware Ireland has long been known for the flagship product that launched the company: the Rambo© Original Turnout, which indelibly raised the bar for blankets and turnouts. MacGuinness invented the blanket in the 1980s and later developed other product lines, including the Rambo Original turnout and the Rhino and Amigo brands.
