Horseware Ireland’s “build a new school” Celebrity Polo Match
The long-anticipated Horseware Ireland St. Patrick’s Day “Build a New School” Bash at Polo West Cantina was a resounding success, raising enough funds to build the new high school at the JustWorld International project site in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, as well as raising additional funds for educational supplies.
Green was the theme of the evening as the supporters, including the show-jumping contingent from WEF, came out in full force celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with an asado barbeque, open bar, music, dancing and a riveting celebrity polo match.
The MacGuinness family has worked diligently to see JustWorld International grow and expand as they continue to fulfill their mission of raising awareness for impoverished children, providing education, nutrition and medicine to the project sites. The event on Sunday, March 17, was nothing short of a success, exceeding expectations for all.
“I want to thank everybody who helped here tonight. We exceeded our goal – that means we have enough funds to build the first floor and the second floor of the high school where the kids who are graduating from the five-story junior school next September” MacGuinness said.
MacGuinness sponsored the Horseware Ireland team consisting of 10-goal polo player Tommy Biddle and professional polo player Brandon Phillips, Irish show jumpers Cian O’Connor and Andrew Bourns, and of course Tom MacGuinness, as well as his son Tommy MacGuinness.
The team faced off against Peacock Ridge Farm’s professional polo players Kris Kampsen and Andres Weisz, and had the help of Swedish show jumpers Daniel and Alexander Zetterman, and Irish show jumpers Kevin Babington and David Blake. It was Peacock Ridge Farm who came away with the win, and guests cheered on as trainer Mauricio Devrient popped the champagne in celebration of a great game. Irish show jumper David Blake was awarded with the Most Valuable Player award for his skill and accuracy during the arena polo match.
The night continued as guests took to the dance floor of the Polo West Cantina, partying to the musical beats of DJ Rey until the event came to an end shortly after 11 pm. The night was alive with celebration, promising that this event is one for the books, and the upcoming year’s calendar of social highlight eventsLive.
