Hurlingham Club Open – Day 2

On Thursday 9/25, on field 4 of the Alfredo Lalor headquarters that the AAP owns in Pilar, the third Quarterfinal match of the 132nd Hurlingham Club Open was played, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup and the Drysdale Subsidiary are at stake.

In the debut of both in the Triple Crown of the AAP 2025, La Irenita La Hache Clinova beat Sol de Agosto by 14 to 11; and in this way they qualified for the semifinal of the tournament; while the defeated team will play the same instance but from the subsidiary.

Although in the first three chukkers it seemed that it was going to be an exhibition of LI LH -with a Hilario Ulloa on fire against the rival wickets and a Pablo Mac Donough very intelligent in the set-up-, minute by minute the collective game of Sol de Agosto grew -a team in which Paco de Narváez and Benja Panelo stood out-, who came within just one goal in the final chukker. But there appeared Hilario again, who scored two consecutive goals to take his team to the semifinal on Sunday 28/9.

Teams and progression:

La Irenita La Hache Clinova: Hilario Ulloa 9 (8 goals, six penalties), Francisco Elizalde 9 (2), Pablo Mac Donough 10 (3) and Ignatius du Plessis 9 (1). Total: 37.
Sol de Agosto: Facundo Sola 8 (1), Paco de Narváez 7 (5), Benjamín Panelo 8 (5, four penalties) and Juan M. Zubía 9. Total: 32.

La Irenita La Hache Clinova: 3-1, 7-3, 9-3, 10-7, 10-8, 11-9, 12-10 y 14-11.

Yellow card: Juan M. Zubía (3.05, Chukker 4).

Judges: Guillermo Villanueva (Jr.) and Hernán Tasso. Arbitrator: Rafael Silva.

Second Match

At the end of the Quarterfinals of the 132nd Hurlingham Club Open, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup and the Drysdale Subsidiary are at stake, the match between UAE Polo and La Ensenada Clonargen was played on Thursday 9/25, on field 2 of the Alfredo Lalor headquarters that the AAP owns in Pilar – which featured Gonzalo Ferrari in place of “Sapo” Caset, who suffered a broken finger in France.

From the beginning, the United Arab Emirates team was firm in all sectors of the field and with its four members at a high level, they took a wide advantage that reached 14 goals averaging the fifth chukker. From there, with a great pass from Jero del Carril – his team’s best value on the date – LE managed six consecutive goals to get closer on the scoreboard, although they could never get within reach. With 10 goals from Polito Pieres and a great team effort, UAE Polo will play the semifinal against La Irenita La Hache Cría & Polo, while their rival will try to reach the final of the subsidiary against Sol de Agosto.

Teams and progression:

UAE Polo: Pablo Pieres 9 (10 goals, five penalties), Lucas Monteverde (n) 9 (4), Tomás Panelo 9 (5, two penalties and one penalty 1) and Juan M. Nero 10 (2). Total: 37.

La Ensenada: Rufino Bensadón 8 (1), Gonzalo Ferrari 8 (3), Juan Britos (h) 8 and Jerónimo del Carril 9 (9, seven penalties). Total: 33.
