Hurlingham Club Open – Day 3

In the continuity of the 132nd Hurlingham Club Open, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup is at stake, on Tuesday 9/30 on field 2 of the Alfredo Lalor headquarters that the AAP owns in Pilar, the first semifinal of the tournament was played.

The 40-goal handicap team, La Natividad La Dolfina, had to suffer much more than expected and was only able to defeat the tough Ellerstina Indios Chapaleufú Vista – with Lorenzo Chavanne in place of Antonio Heguy, who underwent meniscus surgery – after beating them by a tight 13-12, in extra chukker, with a golden goal by Camilo Castagnola.

In an extremely hard-fought match, with an advantage for both and several draws (they tied 5 of the 8 chukkers), Ellerstina Chapaleufú played a very intelligent match, committing few fouls (only 6) and getting her opponent – who was nothing like the one she thrashed 29-4 in her debut – to score 16, a very important item for the development of the semifinal.

Thus, and despite the fact that “Jeta” Castagnola was unstoppable against the rival wickets (he scored 10 of his team’s 13 goals and only 3 with set pieces), the Zeta Chapa always remained within reach and managed to tie at 12 with less than 3 minutes to go.

In the extra partial -also back and forth-, both could have won it, but Camilo Castagnola scored the golden goal at 5.16 for La Natividad La Dolfina to be the first finalist of the tournament, although surely the men of Ellerstina Indios Chapaleufú Vista will leave happier with their performance, who almost gave the big surprise against the top candidate for the title.

Drysdale Subsidiary Cup

On Tuesday 9/30, at the Alfredo Lalor headquarters of the AAP, the first semifinal of the Drysdale Subsidiary Cup of the 132nd Hurlingham Club Open was played on court 4, in which the traditional Ayrshire Cup is at stake.

In a great game, Los Machitos El Refugio achieved an important victory against La Hache Cría & Polo by 18 to 14; and thus qualified as the first runner-up of the Drysdale Subsidiary.

In the first chukker, the LM ER team already marked the field and with a good team game and distributed scoring, they went 3-0. But from there, the match went back and forth, with LH C&P trying by all means to get closer on the scoreboard and look for the equalizer, a situation that they achieved twice in the sixth quarter (10-10 and 11-11). But there appeared in all his splendor Diego Cavanagh, who scored 5 of the 6 goals he scored on the date in those last minutes for Los Machitos El Refugio to take the victory and the pass to the final of the subsidiary.
