Park Place Claims Victory in Defensive Battle Against Polo Stud Schockemohle
Jockeying for a position in the 2020 Prince of Wales Trophy final, Park Place joined Les Lions with an undefeated 2-0 record after defeating Polo Stud Schockemohle 6-3 in a defensive battle at Black Bears.
Utilizing a balanced attack in the early stages of the game, Park Place built a large lead and were able to maintain it by pressuring Polo Stud Schockemohle throughout the game and holding them to under 10% shooting from the field. Managing just one field goal, Polo Stud Schockemohle struggled to keep pace with a potent Park Place side that features both Facundo and Gonzalito Pieres. With just two goals scored between the two teams in the second half, Park Place took the convincing victory behind an effective defense that ultimately prevented Polo Stud Schockemohle from threatening their undefeated record.
A dominant first chukka featured a well-rounded Park Place attack has they raced out to a 4-0 lead, receiving one goal each from all four players. Facundo and Gonzalito Pieres were effective using the pass to avoid pressure from Polo Stud Schockemohle, keeping possession with Park Place and collecting an assist each in the opening chukka. The remainder of the first half produced end-to-end action but missed opportunities on both sides of the ball resulted in a low-scoring affair. Polo Stud Schockemohle found the scoreboard in the second chukka on a penalty conversion from Patrick Maleitzke but trailed 5-2 at halftime with Park Place maintaining control of the game.
Zero field goals were scored from both teams over the final three chukkas, leaving the only offense to come from the penalty line. Trading penalty 2 conversions, Facundo Pieres and Maleitzke scored for their respective teams as Park Place continued to lead throughout the game by three. The lack of offense from the field wasn’t due to a lack of chances, with 15 combined shots at goal, yet the scoreboard remained unchanged. Unable to convert their possessions from knock-ins, Polo Stud Schockemohle was in desperate need of offense, but couldn’t produce uncontested runs to goal, allowing Park Place to complete the 6-3 victory and push for a spot in the Prince of Wales Trophy final.
