Piaget, Les Lions II score important wins in Queen’s Cup round
By Herbert Spencer
Piaget and Les Lions II joined Zacara at the top of their group with victories in the latest round of the Queen’s Cup on Thursday (27 May), with all three teams holding a 2-0 win-loss record.
Piaget’s match against Jerome Wirth’s Enigma at Guard’s Polo Club came to a nail-biting conclusion when Piaget’s Bautista Heguy scored a golden goal in extra time.
The first chukka ended with the two teams even at 1-1, then Piaget dominated to take the lead and keep it for the next three periods, ending the fourth period 8-7. But Enigma went ahead by 10-9 at the end of the fifth.
The sixth chukka became one of the best of the season thus far. Marcos Heguy equalised for Piaget and his brother Bautista scored to put the team ahead. Enigma’s James Beim equalised, then Malcolm Borwick gave Enigma the lead again. Just seconds before the bell Bautista Heguy equalised for Piaget, pushing the game into a seventh chukka.
It was a great under the neck shot by Bautista Heguy that gave Piaget their 13-12 extra time victory.
In an earlier match at Guards, Max Gottschalk’s Les Lions II scored an easier victory over Oussama Aboughazale’ Sumaya, winning 16-9.
