League and group play concluded in the Queen’s Cup Monday (31 May) with eight teams of the 14 in contention advancing to the quarter-final eliminations scheduled for next weekend.
The Albwardy’s Dubai, spearheaded by 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, became only the third team to come through the leagues undefeated. Dubai narrowly beat Les Lions 11-10 at Guards Polo Club to head League Two. Second team in this league was Victor Vargas’ Lechuza Caracas who defeated The Telegraph 14-9 in their match at Billingbear Park for a 2-1 record.
Jean-François Decaux’s La Bamba de Areco, the only team with two 10-goalers (brothers Gonzalito and Facundo Pieres), gained their quarter-final place from League One with a 12-11 win over Eduardo Carmignac’s Talandracas at Guards, giving La Bamba a 2-1 record. Second place in this league went to the Hanburys’ El Remanso, also with a 2-1 tally.
Two teams in Group One go into the quarter-finals undefeated: newcomers Piaget and Max Gottschalk’s Les Lions II. The other two teams qualifying from this larger group are Lyndon Lea’s Zacara with a 2-1 record and Jerome Wirth’s Enigma who won only one of their three games in the preliminaries.
The schedule for the four quarter-finals on 5 and 6 June — who plays who and when – will be announced by Guards on 1 June.
