Richard Mille beat Emlor in British Open league
By Herbert Spencer
Prince Bahar Jefri’s Richard Mille downed Spencer McCarthy’s Emlor 14-8 in Thursday’s only league match of the British Open Championship for the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
Patron McCarthy scored first for Emlor who led 2-0 in the first chukka before Richard Mille got started, with the Brunei prince finding the posts to even the score 3-3 at the end of the period. Emlor retook the lead briefly in the second period, but Richard Mille equalised and went ahead 5-4
at chukka’s end.
After that Richard Mille dominated, holding Emlor scoreless in the third period and increasing their lead with Prince Bahar Jefri scoring again in the fourth chukka. Emlor patron McCarthy scored his team’s last goal in the fifth period. Richard Mille again denied Emlor any goals in the sixth period and young Max Routledge hit Richard Mille’s last goal to end it 14-8.
This Group C match, played on Great Trippett’s excellent main ground near Cowdray Park, was a particularly clean contest with few fouls and only 2 of the 22 goals scored on penalty conversions. All four members of each team scored. Routledge and Alejandro Muzzio shared honours as Richard Mille’s high scorers with five points each.
