The Sir Winston Churchill Finale kept polo enthusiasts on the edge of their seat as Bangash and UAE Polo went head to head in heated match
After a week of intense polo matches the Sir Winston Churchill Cup concluded with two matches, the Subsidiary Final and the Final. Bangash won the final after defeating UAE Polo by 7 goals to 6 in an exciting match enjoyed by our polo picnic crowd at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.
The Subsidiary final saw Habtoor Polo play against Mahra Polo in an intense match. The Habtoor Polo team dominated the game from the opening chukker and stuck to their strong game plan, scoring 9-5 against Mahra Polo.
The final was a neck to neck fight, with the two strongest teams demonstrating vigor and great skill. The last chukker saw both teams at a draw and with only two minutes left to the whistle, Bangash scored their winning goal. Marco Foccacia walked away Most Valuable Player of the tournament and the amazing Mision, played By Fede Von Petobsky, bred by MacDonough’s at La Irenita Argentina was named the Best Playing Pony.
George John Godolphin Spencer Churchill, the Marquess of Blandford, grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, played in the Subsidiary final for Habtoor Polo. “It was a really great match and I am pleased to know the love my grandfather had for polo is still being celebrated. Both teams have strong & prestigious players, and it was an honour to play alongside them.”
Mohammed K. Al Habtoor, CEO and Vice Chairman of Al Habtoor Group, British Ambassador, HE Philipp Parham and George all took part in the trophy ceremony, celebrating the winners and runners up.
The tournament, sponsored by AHK, was a huge success and the turnout was great. Families got to enjoy the renowned Dubai winter weather and kids were entertained all day with fun activities brought to you by the Kid Zone Nursey.
