The Polo French Open: The Very Best from our Sport!
The French Open – or rather the ‘’Opens’’ since there is now a Ladies’ version – marks a climax in the French Polo season. The mixed French Open is a prestigious title created back in the early 20th century. Both French and Argentinian players will be scrambling to enter their name in the record of achievements this year.
From a sporting point of view, the quality of the 18th Edition is simply remarkable: 8 teams on the Mens’ side – mixed category – and 6 teams on the Ladies’ side. Great players, upto Handicap 8 (out of 10 maximum), great Argentinian names – Aguerre, Bensadon father & son, Elizalde, Laplacette, Maiquez, Pieres, Uranga, the best French players (Delfosse, Ngoumou, Paillol & Strom) and teams from France, England and Germany. We have 8 perfectly stable teams, which means a genuine challenge full of surprises to come.
The female selection is even more impressive, including the three best world players – Nina Clarkin and Hazel Jackson from the United Kingdom, Lía Salvo from Argentina, as well as players from England, the United States, Thailand, the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as the French Ladies team that will prepare the forthcoming European Championship in Italy. The French Mens’ team will prepare, for its part, the Castel Trophy, an 8-goal tournament that will be played at the same time, involving 8 French and German teams.
To summarize, great polo is expected on all nine fields for three weeks at the Ferme d’Apremont. It will be wonderful to hang out in the September evenings and celebrate this fabulous end of season tournament, right upto its climax in the Finals of September 16th.
