The 2025 British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup officially began on Tuesday 24th June on the lawns of Cowdray Park Polo Club with 2 exciting and tightly contested matches both ending in single goal victories and matching scorelines. Quite a way to start the most exciting tournament of the UK season.
Match 1:
First up, Dubai won against King Power MB Polo by a score of 10-9. The close match was even throughout in terms of possession and scoring opportunities. The lead switched 4 times, neither team giving an inch, but it was Dubai who were able to keep a cool head in the final chukka to score 3 goals, take back the lead and win the game by 1 goal, taking home the Carlos Gracida Memorial Cup.
Match 2:
UAE Polo Team won the second match of the day against Park Place by a score of 10-9.
Unlike the previous match, UAE were winning throughout the game, starting strong and able to hold off the Park Place attack throughout, never letting them get within a goal. An incredible 22 shots on goal from the field show how strong the UAE attack was. Luckily for Park Place they were only able to convert 36% of these meaning it wasn’t a runaway match but possession was certainly in UAE’s favour and they look strong heading into the tournament.
