The USPA La Martina Intra Circuit Tournament
The USPA La Martina Intra Circuit Tournament is off to a competitive start at Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club. ERG and Antelope/Film Finance having both won their games on Friday faced off against each other during Sunday’s 1:00 PM match. ERG’ team, Dawn Jones, filling in for Scott Woods, Felipe Vercellino, Martin Munoz, and Jose Denoso, sported bright orange jerseys for their first 12 goal tournament of the summer. This is the fourth tournament for Antelope/Film Finance’s team with Leigh Breechen, Patrick Uretz, Jesse Bray and Santi Trotz. These two teams put on quite a show for the spectators, racing up and down the field scoring one goal after the next. ERG’s team maintained a strong lead going into half time, but Antelope/Film Finance kicked into gear in the second half. The score bounced back and forth and the 6th chukker ended in a tie to send the game into overtime. 6 goaler, Jose Denoso, scored the winning overtime goal for ERG
The second game of the afternoon featured Grants Farm Manor against Cotterel/ Long Beach. Grants Farm Manor team with Justin Klentner, Henry Walker, Santi Wulff, and Andy Busch plays consistently and always offers tough competition. Cotterel/Long Beach with Jenny Luttrell, Danny Walker, Ruben Coscia, and Marcos Llambias lost on Friday in a tough game against ERG. Santi Wulff proved to be the superstar of the afternoon scoring 8 of the team’s 15 goals during the match. Danny Walker, for Cotterel/Long Beach, was consistent at the penalty line, but the team had a hard time scoring from the field. In the 6th chukker, teammates Marcos Llambias and Ruben Coscia came back for a tough fight, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap Grants Farm Manor had maintained throughout the game.
The final scores today were ERG def. Antelope/Film Finance 11-10 OT and Grants Farm Manor def. Cotterel/ Long Beach 15-11.
The games this Friday will determine who is in the finals on Sunday. The current standings are ERG 2-0, Antelope/Film Finance 1-1, Grants Farm Manor 1-1, and Cotterel/Long Beach 0-2.
ERG will play Grants Farm Manor. This game will be fast and tough, a definite must see! If Antelope/Film Finance wins against Cotterel/Long Beach, there will a chance for a penalty shootout. A penalty shootout is used to break a tie with 3 players from each team shooting both penalty 4s and penalty 3s.
