Tortugas Open – Day 2

On Sunday 10/13,  the second date (first of Zone B) of the 84th Open of the Tortugas Country Club presented by Jumbo, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake, began.

On field 5 of the organizing club, the recent finalist of Hurlingham, La Dolfina Saudi (with Gonzalo Ferrari as a starter in place of Adolfito Cambiaso) defeated La Hache Cría & Polo by 17 to 13.

After an eventful first chukker (Facu Sola had to come off and leave his place to Iñaki Laprida) and very hard-fought, La Dolfina began to work collectively from the second half, which they won 4-0 and from there began to direct the result.

Although it was not their best game, Poroto’s efficiency in the execution of fouls and the movements of Pelón Stirling were enough for the Cañuelas team to achieve the victory, which was very hard fought by the Cría y Polo team, which only lost by 4 goals difference and left the match with good feelings.

Teams and progression:

La Dolfina Saudi: Gonzalo Ferrari 7 (4 goals), David Stirling (h) 10 (3), Adolfo Cambiaso (n) 10 (8, six penalties) and Juan M. Nero 10 (2). Total: 37.

The Hatchet & Polo: Facundo Sola 8 (injured, replaced by Ignacio Laprida 8 -1 goal- at 2m.52s. of the first chukker), Carlos M. Ulloa 8 (3), Benjamín Panelo 7 (2) and Joaquín Pittaluga 8 (7, six penalties). Total: 31.

La Dolfina Saudi: 2-2, 6-2, 7-4, 10-5, 13-6, 14-9, 15-11 and 17-13.

Yellow Card: Benjamín Panelo (3m.44s. – Chukker 3).

Judges: Matías Baibiene and Gonzalo López Vargas. Arbitrator: Martín Aguerre.

In the second match of the day on field 7 two teams with the same handicap of 36 goals, La Hache Polo Team beat La Ensenada Dietrich, 13 to 10.

It was an atypical match, since the boys from La Ensenada started very attentive and with a good play from Jero del Carril -magnificent first half-, they took a 4-goal advantage, leaving the polo players of La Hache quite worried, who closed the half three goals down.

But in the second half of the match everything changed. Fran Elizalde and Tommy Panelo appeared, and  began to accompany Polito Pieres – of great performance – and Hilario Ulloa, so that the team took control of the game, turned the score around and was left with a huge victory after winning the second half of the game by 8-2.

An excellent show of character for the La Hache team and a lot of concern on the side of La Ensenada, who did not expect this result at all after a great first half of play.

Teams and progression:

La Hache P. T.: Pablo Pieres 9 (5 goals, two penalties), Hilario Ulloa 9 (1), Francisco Elizalde 9 (4) and Tomás Panelo 9 (3). Total: 36.

The Dietrich Cove: Juan Britos (h) 9 (2), Alfredo Bigatti 9 (2), Juan M. Zubía 9 (1) and Jerónimo del Carril 9 (5, three from a penalty and one from a corner). Total: 36.

La Hache P. T.: 0-4, 3-6, 3-7, 5-8, 7-8, 11-8, 13-9 and 13-10.

Judges: Guillermo Villanueva (Jr.) and Martín Pascual. Arbitrator: José I. Araya.
