U.S. Polo Association Elects Chuck Weaver as Chairman of the Board of Governors
Previous USPA President and Current Peoria City Councilman Represents
Strong Commitment to Growing Sport
The U.S. Polo Association (USPA), the national governing body for the sport of polo, has elected previous president Chuck Weaver as its new chairman of the board of governors. The USPA was established more than a century ago and has become a worldwide leader in promoting the game of polo and coordinating activities including rules and handicap regulation, player development, umpiring and the health and welfare of horses.
With extensive experience in America’s oldest team sport dating back to 1983, Weaver previously served as the USPA’s president and has also been a board member and treasurer for the organization’s USPA Properties apparel business. His passion for the polo revolves around the joy of training horses and spending weekends with his family playing the sport. In addition to his polo pursuits, Weaver is also currently serving his first term on the Peoria City Council in Peoria, Ill.
“I am extremely honored to be named the chairman during such an exciting and historical time for U.S. polo,” said Weaver. “Polo is experiencing a boom in this country and the growth of USPA membership and expanding programs are introducing the sport to players from a whole new range of backgrounds and skill levels.”
The USPA attributes much of polo’s recent progression to player and talent development, which is helping both expand and improve the sport domestically. Polo is experiencing a new youth movement thanks to programs such as Interscholastic/Intercollegiate polo, cost-effective Regional Training Centers and specialty programs like Work to Ride targeted to help at-risk kids. The organization’s premier Team USPA development program has also been extremely influential and recently sent several players to compete with the U.S. national team in October’s FIP World Championships in Argentina.
