Carillon Miami and SD Farms Victorious on Day 3 of 2018 Ylvisaker Cup
After failing to gain a victory in the Joe Barry Cup, SD Farms defeated La Indiana 10-7 for their first win of the high goal season. Led by Ignacio Laprida’s six-goal performance, SD Farms was able to use a fast pace of play that took La Indiana off their game. Defensively, Adam Snow pressured Facundo Obregon heavily, providing little time and space as the La Indiana offense never quite found their footing, shooting just 3 for 7 from the field.
The game was closely contested in a low-scoring first half, with neither team creating many scoring chances or fouling often, providing a back and forth flow to the game. Each team converted two penalty 2’s in the opening half, but it was SD Farms’ patron Sayyu Dantata that provided the source of offense from the field, scoring two goals to give his team the slim 4-3 lead at halftime.
La Indiana were unable to fight their way back into the game due to foul trouble and a relentless SD Farms defence that limited their chances throughout the game. SD Farms extended their lead to 5-3 in the fourth chukka on Laprida’s third goal of the game as La Indiana continued to search for answers offensively. La Indiana finally produced a strong chukka offensively in the 5th, scoring three goals, two of which from Victorino Ruiz Jorba, but were unable to prevent SD Farms from matching that total as they still found themselves trailing by two goals heading into the final chukka. The SD Farms defence continued their strong play in the final chukka, holding La Indiana to zero shots to finish with the 10-7 victory.
The second game of the day saw Carillon Miami, formerly Modere, use the final two chukkas to defeat newcomers Prestige Worldwide 10-8 in a hard-fought contest from start to finish. In a fast, flowing game where neither team ever led by more than two goals, Prestige Worldwide held a one goal lead after the first chukka and maintained that same one goal lead after each chukka until the final two chukkas of the game. Prestige Worldwide was able to continually hold on to their lead due to a strong performance from patron Will Johnston. Active defensively, Johnston was able to challenge the Carillon Miami players while scoring two goals in the game, the second of which came on an impressive nearside pickup and an outstretched tap through the goal.
Carillon Miami was finally able to breakthrough in the fifth chukka thanks to stretching out the Prestige Worldwide team and finally creating space as all four Carillon Miami players found the scoresheet once in the final two chukkas. With the score tied at 8-8 with minutes remaining, Hilario Ulloa found patron Jim Zenni in front of the goal to give Carillon Miami their first lead of the game. Three missed penalty shots throughout the game for Prestige Worldwide and an experienced Carillon Miami offence late in the game were the difference as 10-goaler Ulloa led the way with five goals.
The new Prestige Worldwide displayed a strong team effort in an impressive debut, but ultimately fell just short in their first high goal game of the season against a Carillon Miami team beginning their quest to reach a second straight tournament final.
